Welcome to Mountain Area

Live right on the mountain at the heart of Ski Town U.S.A. The vibe changes from winter to summer, but there is always something happening at the base of the Steamboat Ski Area. In winter, it’s World Cup competitions, the après ski scene, holiday happenings, night skiing, free concerts, and Friday night fireworks. In summer, its mountain biking, laid-back picnics by Burgess Creek beach, open-air movie nights, and an eclectic mix of festivals that bring food and art to the base. The area is serviced by the free city bus, which makes getting to and from the ski area or downtown, very easy.

Accommodation options run the gamut with something to suit all price points. Locations range from the quintessential ski-in and ski-out settings to secluded mountain developments away from the action. Choices abound from upscale condominium complexes with first-class spa amenities to single-family homes with a neighborhood ambiance. Clusters of apartment developments have proved popular within the rental and second-home market.

Walk to dinner and be spoiled for choice with a selection of restaurants on the mountain. Choose from simple family fare to fine dining, that rivals many major city-based, foodie’s favorites. Spend lazy mornings strolling around boutique stores or grab a coffee and treat from the artisan deli.

Out with the periphery of the ski area, life is a little more sedate. Burgess Creek Road winds its way up into more forested space and offers a little more seclusion with stunning mountain views. On the east side of town, furthest from the mountain, you find quieter cul-de-sacs, walking paths, parks, and open spaces. Popular with year-round residents who still want to be in the mountain area, accommodation varies from apartments to townhomes, and single-family homes. Living here is about being where it happens; you just have to choose your pace.
